Governance

Duchy Preschool is managed by a group of volunteer Trustees who are responsible for running the Charity, overseeing setting management and child protection. Trustees are required to run the Preschool within the remit of our Charitable Objects and our Constitution.  Trustees are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting and any parent or guardian is invited to stand for election. We are constantly seeking new volunteers to keep the Preschool running. The Trustees meet 4 times a year and operate sub-committees for things like resources, facilities, finance and fundraising.

The Chair of Trustees supports and line manages the Managing Supervisor, who manages our staff, covering all day to day matters teaching and operational matters.

We are funded by a combination of the local authority grant (a sum per child, limited to 15 hours a week), fees from parents for additional hours and fundraising.  Inevitably there are more demands on our resources than can be met and we have to work hard to stay open, but we and the Trustees do take seriously the responsibility of the care and education of up to 50 children at any one time and the employment of staff.
